Drum Tuning Tips

I received a catalog in the mail this week from Five Star Drum Shops, which features San Jose’s own Lemmon Percussion on the cover. In the back pages, I found a great article on tuning. The article, reminded me of a great gadget that I bought years ago–the Tama Tension Watch.

The Tension Watch lends a hand to those who find tuning by ear a challenge. Back to the tuning article, the method described is one that I find, many young drummers aren’t aware of. There are variations that can be applied, but you can’t go wrong with the technique described here. Check it out at Five-Star’s TechTips page.

I got a Tension Watch as a sound-tuner for my drum and it has instruction on how to tune and what sound can you tune for your drum. The sounds are natural, rock, groove and many more. I get a Tension Watch for myself it’s because i don’t know how to tune my drum. The Tension Watch helped me a lot cause i just need to follow the instructions and choose which sound i would the drum to have.

I’m so sad to report that I recently lost my Tension Watch. Fortunately, I found that after all these years, I have an ear for tuning.
